Thanks for your comment, Donald. I agree that it was right to showcase the inclusive work of Fèis Ros in this concert, it was the recorded voice which I found uneven and felt should have been left out. I also agree that the ensemble playing was of a high standard but would have liked to have heard more solos from some of their ‘stars’.

Thought this a marvellous concert, and can’t agree with you that “the Feis’s decision to include [the pupils from St Clement’s School in Dingwall ] was the wrong one”. The compositions from this group were lovely, and the inclusiveness demonstrated by Feis Rois wholly admirable.
I really liked the way the “stars” who’ve come through the Feis Rois over the years by and large kept low profiles and let the wonderful general level of musicianship and performance speak for itself.

This concert was a real highlight of my several days at Celtic Connections, and, for my money, knocked for six headline acts of dubious celtic connection like the Blind Boys of Alabam (which after a great start, descended into a musical version of a Harlem Globetrotters circus).
