I bought ‘Ruined crofts, Rackwick’ when it was in the RSA Summer show of 1971 and it’s been a beautiful and somewhat mysterious presence in our house ever since. It’s in the Stromness show now and, do you know, I miss it.

It was ‘Orkney Tapestry’ which first took me to the islands in 1973, aged just 18, and just this July I had the uplifting experience of staying at Heatherybraes for a restorative week, watching ‘Hoy TV’ through that great picture window, and being thrilled by the Tall Ships sailing up the sound. I look forward to both the book and the RSA showing of the exhibition!
