Exhibition celebrates composer James Douglas
28 Jun 2012 in Highland, Music
Classical Composer and musician James Douglas will reach his 80th birthday next week, early in July. This award winning composer will mark the day privately in a small gathering of family and friends.
However, on Friday 6th July everyone is invited to the launch of an exclusive exhibition in Ullapool Library at 11am which will feature rare photos, programmes and posters of James Douglas’ long and varied musical career as a composer and musician. On display will be historic photos from the Edinburgh International Festival, pictures of James Douglas, when he performed for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, as well as photos from performances in recent years in Ullapool at the Macphail Theatre.
The exhibition has been assembled by the composer’s wife and daughter, Helen and Katharine Douglas, and they want to give as many people as possible the chance to see unique photos, music sketches and programmes that have formed a large part of James’ life and give in insight into the varied career of a professional musician and composer. The exhibition takes place with the help and kind permission of Ullapool Library and its community and schools librarian: Caroline Cooper. The exhibition runs from 6th to 20th July and will be launched on Friday 6th July at 11am with live music from James Douglas in the Library. All welcome.
