Very sad to read this news. Northings has done a great job in reporting and commenting on the wide breadth of the arts in the Highlands and beyond, and I hope there is an opportunity for it to continue in some form or another.

Very sad to hear this but I guess not surprised in the current climate. Thanks for everything Northings has done to highlight the wonderful breadth of arts in Orkney (in particular) and the Highlands and Islands more widely. I have discovered wonderful artwork and people through it, and I hope we can continue to benefit from the rich archive it has created. Good luck with finding a new form for it.

Sue, that’s what we’re working on. All ideas gratefully received! Although no new editorial content will be posted on the site from the end of March, it will remain live, and so it would be easy to start to repopulate it, and the existing content will remain fully accessible.

We simply can’t afford to lose Northings. If we don’t write about our arts they will remain in the obscurity granted them by the rest of the UK’s media. What has been great about Northings, and largely due to Kenny’s inimitable leadership, is that it has built and strengthened the community of writers and artists here in the north. We simply must find some way to keep it alive. I’ll help if I can. I’m sure others will too.

This is a huge pity – I totally beleive you guys did what you set out to do – which is provide quality reviews as well as quality opportunities for writers. I’m very sad that it has come to an end – and would support a relaunch when the comes.
