I am not Rachel Frazer, but her dad. I was lent a vinyl of the sisters by Betty and Alex McDonald way back in the sixties or seventies, and was absolutely enthralled. Entitled, I think, ‘Welcome to Scotland’, it featured such classics as ‘The Piper O’Dundee’. Those McDonalds, not related to the sisters, did, however, have a daughter Margaret, now a notable mezzo-soprano and vocal coach of the Halle Choir and others. I must now locate the CD of the sisters! Tony Coles, Felixstowe.

Looking for help to introduce a new event: Nidd Nokk Bonfire on 21st June on the banks of the river Nith, south west Scotland. A large water sprite (Nokk) in the shape of a horses neck & head made from willow, burned at dusk on the river bank.

The demise of Hi-Arts and Northings is a great blow to the cultural community of the North of Scotland. In particular I would like to thank Georgina Coburn for her wonderfully insightful reviews of visual art events and exhibitions over the years. Art will still be created but it will be even harder now to disseminate it from the far flung corners of our region. I am not optimistic that any ‘re-structuring’ of public funding for the arts will be of any immediate or significant benefit to our cause.
