Local artist to give talk and painting workshops at Pier Arts Centre

4 Apr 2011 in Orkney, Visual Arts & Crafts

As part of the ARTIST ROOMS funded programme of education events to accompany the exhibition Beautiful Being, the Pier Arts Centre in Stromness is offering two days of painting workshops with Orcadian artist Diana Leslie.

These will take place at the gallery and, weather permitting, some work will be done out of doors, working directly from the landscape. The day-long workshops are aimed at 15-25 year olds and will take place on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 April 2011. It is possible to book for both or just one day of the days.

Pier Arts Centre Education Officer, Carol Dunbar said, ‘This is a great opportunity for young people to experience the process of direct painting. It was originally planned to make this a residential event on Westray, but unfortunately we had to reschedule the venue. By separating it into two distinct days based on the Mainland, I hope this will encourage people to take up the places offered.’

The workshops are free and all materials will be provided. Booking is essential, to book your place and for further information contact the gallery on +44 (0)1856 850209.

To compliment her own exhibition, Hill & Voe, currently on display at the Pier Arts Centre, Diana Leslie will give an informal talk at the gallery on Saturday 23 April 2011 at 4pm.

Beautiful Being is on display until Saturday 4 June 2011. Hill & Voe will be showing until Monday 25 April 2011. The Pier Arts Centre is open Monday – Saturday 10.30am – 5pm. Admission is free.
