Take One Action Film Festivals

23 Jun 2011 in Film

Are you interested in great films that make a difference? Would you like to organise events in your local community? Here’s your chance to take action.

Take One Action – Scotland’s global action cinema project – is organising it’s first youth film festival residency for young people aged 16-21 and their educators/youth workers at the Macrobert Centre in Stirling.

Being part of a residency you’ll have the chance to spend 2 days with us, staying overnights on campus.

You’ll take part in workshops led by internationally acclaimed film specialists and directors, and organisations such as Oxfam and The Co-operative.

By the end of the residency you’ll leave with the knowledge and skills to host a film screening in your local area which will engage community members to “take one action” that might positively change how they live, think and act.

Part 1 of Project: Young people and educators attend the residency, learning about global issues, going behind the scenes on the power of cinema, and developing skills to present films in your local area that will motivate people to take one positive action to help the local, wider or global community.

Part 2 of Project: Young people and educators plan and host a film event in their local community, provided with a film license and practical support from Take One Action.

Take One Action is keen to work with different and diverse groups, and groups whose individual members are also diverse. You might love film, or want to make a difference in the world, or to develop experience of co-ordinating events. It could be a recently set up group. Groups should have approx 5 members. They do NOT have to be film experts or have held previous events. They should have the desire and motivation to complete the second part of the project.

Will take place on a Friday and a Saturday. 3rd and 4th of September. Funding is available for 8 groups of young people and their educators (1 per group). For schools, there is £200 per day for teacher cover for Friday. Unfortunately, there is no funding for youth leader cover, but we really welcome enquiries from youth groups. All MacRoberts residency festival costs for young people and educators are covered including accommodation and meals. It is expected that groups will fund their own travel.  We are aware that this may put remote areas at a disadvantage. If that’s you, then please contact Louisa to discuss possibilities.
