PressPlay – New Members Needed For Bella

4 Jul 2011 in Moray

“PressPlay” is an energetic, Nairn based, youth led drumming band, which is part of INSPIRE, the community celebrations organisation.  The band is made up of and is led by young people whose interest in street drumming has developed through their involvement in Nairn’s annual winter processions.

Under the dynamic musical direction of Oli Furness of Orkestra del Sol, the much loved big party wind and percussion ensemble, PressPlay has performed at various events over the last couple of years including the Ptarmigan Restaurant in the Cairngorms with their Grantown on Spey collaborators PACE and at last year’s Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival.

Having been invited to appear again at this year’s festival, the hunt is on for new recruits to join the band, learn the beats and perform at one of the Highland’s premiere festivals.  New band members will be provided with free festival passes. Recruits should be between 12 and 25 and ideally have previous drumming experience as well as a level of commitment to continue their involvement after the summer.  Furthermore, new recruits will be able to help the band choose a new name in time for Bella.

Band member Amy McCann said, “This is a great experience for young people. We have a lot of talent in the band and aim to use our appearance at the Belladrum Festival as a showcase, so we thought it would be a good idea to add some new blood to our ranks.”

The band meets at 6pm on Mondays in Nairn Community Centre’s Youth Café.  For more information, contact the band’s co-ordinator, Shiobhan Rushforth on 0787 290 7917 or at shiobhan33@msn.com.
