Father and Son reunited in revival of Whisky Galore – A Musical!

8 Aug 2011 in Dance & Drama, Highland

Ten years after they last appeared on the Pitlochry stage together, Michael Mackenzie and his son James will once again tread the boards at the famous Theatre in the Hills alongside each other, in Pitlochry Festival Theatre’s first ever Autumn production: a special revival, as part of PFT`s 60th Anniversary celebrations, of the 2009 smash-hit production of Whisky Galore – A Musical!

A well-kent face and a stalwart of the Scottish stage, Michael Mackenzie has appeared in seven Summer Seasons at PFT, the first in 1974 and the last in 2001. His son James, who will be very familiar to Scottish audiences from his appearances in the hit musical Sunshine On Leith, was born at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee the morning his father opened as Elyot in Private Lives in PFT`s 1979 Season!

Whisky Galore – A Musical! will also feature several current members of PFT’s 60th Anniversary Season ensemble – Alan Steele, Dougal Lee, Robin Harvey Edwards, Helen Logan and Sandy Batchelor – all of whom were in the cast of the sensational 2009 production. Other original cast members (and PFT veterans) returning for the revival include Carol Ann Crawford, Gavin Jon Wright and George Rae. And two highly talented, all-singing, all-dancing, instrument-playing newcomers to PFT, Lindsay Ashworth and Lila Clements, complete the cast line-up.

With this talented and experienced group of actor-musicians re-telling the story of Compton Mackenzie`s much-loved novel in an adaptation acclaimed for its humour, warmth and rousing score, Whisky Galore – A Musical! looks certain to be the hot theatre ticket in Scotland this Autumn – just as it was in 2009. With tickets already selling fast, the advice from PFT`s Box Office is to book early to make sure that you don`t miss out!

Performances run from 21st October to 12th November, with matinée performances every Wednesday and Saturday. Tickets are available from PFT`s Box Office on 01796 484626 or online at PitlochryFestivalTheatre.com
