Apocalypse, A Glamorously Ugly Cabaret

30 Sep 2011 in Aberdeen City & Shire, Dance & Drama, Highland

Catherine Gillard and Peter Clerke – formerly of benchtours – team up with triple Fringe First winners Clancy Productions for an anarchic evening of spectacular mayhem across Scotland this Autumn

It’s the end of the world as we know it- so why not spend your final hours with Gdjet and Lulu as they crawl up from the gutters and swamps of society to provide an evening of apocalyptic-ally good entertainment.

Armed with only stools, microphones, a red curtain and a spotlight, they expose the hypocrisy and reveal the truth behind the bedtime stories we are told by the powers-that-be who wish us to continue our 21st century sleep…

Set during the last night on Earth, Apocalypse criss-crosses from the recent Past to the relentless Present, as our two hosts bravely face down an unimaginable and unavoidable Future.  Are they fallen angels sent here to warn us or desperate charlatans playing one last con?

Apocalypse is the debut show from The Occasional Cabaret, a brand new Scottish theatre company formed by Catherine Gillard and Peter Clerke, former Artistic Directors of the renowned benchtours (The Bridge, The Lesson). Apocalypse sees them team up with New York-based Clancy Productions, who have bagged three prestigious Edinburgh Fringe First Awards for Fatboy, screwmachine/eyecandy and The Event.

Clancy Productions’ Executive Artistic Director John Clancy says “”Since the Edinburgh Festival Fringe has been an artistic home and haven for Clancy Productions over the last decade, it’s exciting to be working with such a tremendous local company on the creation of a new work.”

Highly visual, bitingly original, with humour as black as midnight, Apocalypse combines satire, music, song and grotesquery in an anarchic evening of twisted international cabaret.
