Strathspè Away 2011

11 Oct 2011 in Dance & Drama, Highland

www.dannsa.comThe weekend festival, which has successfully embedded itself as a unique event in the Scottish dance calendar, looks to be another winner as dannsa welcome new guests and old for their eighth festival on 11-13 November 2011. They are delighted to welcome The Mhairi Hall Trio, who intrinsically link the Cairngorm landscape with the music beautifully, to join with dannsa’s performance on Saturday night.

Skippinish, who have an unparalleled reputation as one of Scotland’s best ceilidh bands, will open the festival. The tutors are some of the best there are; Pat Murphy from Ireland, Saliha Haouach from Alba Flamenca, Frank McConnell and Katie Shaw teaching step-dance as well as dannsa’s own regulars, Caroline and Sandra. The weekend is truly a festival of Highland culture, with dance at the heart…..dannsa look forward to seeing you!

FRIDAY 11 NOVEMBER 8.00 pm

SKIPPINISH

For over twelve years Skipinnish have been one of Scotland’s most accomplished and respected ceilidh bands, richly skilled in the arts of music and dance they know how to rouse and rollick their audience to present a night you’ll want to be part of. Andrew Stevenson & Angus MacPhail play the best of Highland sets fresh from the West! And from the west to the east, the Bollywood Babes will be showing their routine’s recently shown in the media.

SATURDAY 12 NOVEMBER 8.00 pm

DANNSA and Mhairi Hall Trio

A buzz from Badenoch as Scotland’s favourite dance group joins forces with one of the most comtemporary sounds to be heard, combining traditional piano music with Cairngorm emotions, to produce a scintillating evening of traditional music and dance.

‘Cairngorm’ by Mhairi Hall Trio has pushed the boundaries of a genre and of an instrument. The intrinsic link between the music and the area’s landscape is beautifully expressed to make a sound that seems to transcend music and become a body of work with a soul.

Dannsa are an innovate dance group who create new dances drawing from the many rich and varied traditions throughout Scotland. From Highland to Step Dance, Ceilidh and Old Scotch Reels they will always bring something fresh to their dances. With live music from some of Scotland’s best musicians, the ceilidh with Mhairi Hall Trio at the end of the evening will be an energetic high!
