Aberdeen’s autumn dance festival gets set to ignite city stages

17 Oct 2011 in Aberdeen City & Shire, Dance & Drama

Hosted by City Moves – the North-east’s main dance agency – Dance Live 2011 welcomes world class talent to the City and Shire for a two week programme of high-quality events.

This year’s emphasis is on home-grown talent including; four newly commissioned works for East Coast Moves that will premiere at the festival and the hotly anticipated Dance Hotel where audiences will be led through the performance at Aberdeen hotel Jury’s Inn.  Aberdeen dance icon’s Michael Clark and Angela Towler will also feature in film shorts as part of an evening that celebrates the evolution of the Aberdeen dance movement.

The festival also boosts a  number of Scottish premieres including balletLORENT’S  sultry and sexy la nuit intime; and Retina Dance Company’s Layer of Skin that  will feature local dancers.

A new addition to the annual festival, now in its sixth year, is the Dance Careers Day featuring talks, workshops and stands to provide as much information as possible for young people interested in pursuing a career in dance.

Artistic Director Andy Howitt said: “ The emphasis of this year’s festival is not only about showcasing home-grown talent, it is also about accessibility with pieces such as Dance Hotel, The Shoogle Project, Bubblegum and balletLORENT designed to bring dance to new audiences.

“DanceLive 2011 is strictly about having fun and trying something new.”

The festival takes place in 8 venues, with 14 events showcasing local, national and international talent and for the first time will include 3 screenings of dance performance.
