Hebrides Ensemble Pulse Shadows Scottish Tour
Hebrides Ensemble gives the Scottish premiere performances of Harrison Birtwistle’s Pulse Shadows in conjunction with ECAT from 7 – 11 March 2011 in Glasgow, Inverness, Edinburgh and Perth.
Hebrides Ensemble are delighted to be joined by renowned soprano Claron McFadden, to whom the work is dedicated and who gave the premiere performances of Pulse Shadows in London in 1996.
Pulse Shadows comprises nine settings of text by Paul Celan for soprano, string quartet and ensemble, and nine movements for String Quartet. For these performances, Hebrides Ensemble’s Artistic Director, William Conway, has interwoven the Birtwistle movements with Purcell Fantasias, bridging the 300 year gap between them.
Hebrides Ensemble performs for the first time in St Andrews in The Square in Glasgow on Monday 7 March, before touring to Eden Court in Inverness on Tuesday 8 March, Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh on Wednesday 9 March, with the fourth and final performance in Perth Concert Halls on Friday 11 March.
