Lochaber Fèis Gearing Up For Another Successful Event

The annual Fèis Lochabair will take place from 11-15 April in Lochyside Primary School, Fort William.
Fèis Lochabair, is common with other Fèisean that are part of the highly successful Fèis movement, is a five-day teaching festival featuring Gaelic language, music, song, dance and drama for young people in the Lochaber area. The Fèis aims to encourage young people aged 8-18 to take an active part in enjoying the traditional language, music, song and dance of the Highlands. It also offer shorter taster sessions daily for youngsters between 4 and 7 years old.
The week includes daytime classes for young people in Accordion, Gaelic Song, Button Box, Chanter/Bagpipes, Clàrsach, Tin Whistle, Fiddle, Gaelic Drama, Keyboards, Art, Drumming, Guitar, Step Dance, Gaelic Media, Groupwork (Incorporating PA Work), Gaelic Conversation, Indoor Games and Shinty.
Events that are open to the public include a fantastic Tutor’s Concert and Family Dance on the evening of Wednesday 13 April. The week ends with the Fèis Participant’s Cèilidh on the afternoon of Friday 15 April. Both these events will be in Lochyside Primary School. Fèis tutors this year will include Angus Grant, Archie MacAllister, Neil Sinclair, Ewen Henderson, Jim Hunter and many other talented traditional musicians.

Thèid an tachartas bliadhnail Fèis Lochabair a chumail ann an Sgoil Taobh na Locha anns a’ Ghearasdan eadar 11 agus 15 Giblean.
Coltach ri na tachartasan eile a tha mar phàirt de dh’iomairt iomraiteach nam fèisean, bidh Fèis Lochabair a’ tabhann còig làithean de bhùithtean-obrach anns na h-ealain Ghàidhlig – cànan, ceòl, òrain, dannsa agus dràma – airson òigridh à sgìre Loch Abar. Tha an Fhèis ag amas air cothroman a thoirt do dh’òigridh eadar 8 agus 18 pàirt a ghabhail ann an cànan agus ceòl traidiseanta na Gàidhealtachd. Bidh seiseanan nas giorra ann gach latha airson clann eadar 4 agus 7 cuideachd.
Bidh bùithtean-obrach gach latha ann am Bocsa, Òrain Ghàidhlig, Bocsa Putain, Feadan/Pìob, Clàrsach, Fìdeag, Fidheall, Dràma Ghàidhlig, Meur-chlàr, Ealan, Drumaireachd, Giotàr, Dannsa Ceum, Na meadhanan Gàidhlig, Obair chòmhlain (a’ gabhail a-steach obair le PA), Gàidhlig, Geamaichean a-staigh agus Iomain.
Bidh tachartasan fosgailte dhan phoball cuideachd, nam measg oidhche mhìorbhaileach le Cèilidh an Luchd-teagaisg agus Dannsa Teaghlaich air Diciadain 13 Giblean. Bidh an t-seachdain a’ tighinn gu crìch le Ceìlidh na Fèise feasgar Dihaoine 15 Giblean. Bidh an dà chuirm a’ tachairt ann an Sgoil Taobh na Locha. A-measg na bhios a’ teagasg aig fèis na bliadhna-sa bi Aonghas Grannd, Eardsaidh MacAlasdair, Niall Mac na Ceardaich, Eòghann MacEanruig, Seumas Mac an t-Sealgair agus iomadh neach ciùil tàlantach eile.
