The National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland (NYPB) will bring its exciting brand of pipe band music to Ross and Cromarty for the very first time on Saturday 26th March 2011, with the aim of fostering interest in piping and drumming and developing the talent of local young players.

The NYPB is a non competing performance pipe band featuring the very best pipers and drummers aged between 10- 25 years old from throughout Scotland. They are pleased to be bringing their exciting brand of pipe band performance to East Lothian, as they give workshops and present a concert.

During the day the National Youth Pipe Band will be conducting workshops at Dingwall Academy. They will run from 10.30am – 4pm and any local piper or drummer under 25 in the area can attend. So if there are any budding young pipers and drummers, or indeed Novice Juvenile or Juvenile pipe bands who would like the chance to work with the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland please contact the National Piping Centre in Glasgow on 0141 353 0220 to register your interest.

Then in the evening they will take to the stage at the Dingwall Academy to showcase the National Youth Pipe Band flair in an exciting concert. With tracks such as “The Annihilator” and “The Dragon’s Lair” this is an exhilarating twist to the pipe band tradition, whilst maintaining the highest standards of piping and drumming. So make sure you get down to Dingwall Academy to hear the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland. The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £5. They are available on the door on the night.

Alisdair McLaren, Director of the NYPBoS said: “The aim for The National Youth Pipe Band is always to produce events and performances that represent the highest quality of pipe band music while providing a “wow” factor for its audience. We are really looking forward to working with the young players in the area and hope to put on a great concert for the people of Ross and Cromarty. We hope that the workshops during the day will inspire the young pipers and drummers of the area and that the show will encourage them to keep working hard so one day they might join our ranks.”
