The Wiyos at Universal Hall

14 Mar 2011 in Moray, Music

The Wiyos are appearing at Universal Hall on Friday 18 March (not the following day, as originally announced).

From New York, the Brooklyn-based Wiyos made a huge impact following their BBC TV debut when they appeared with Seasick Steve and last year they opened for Bob Dylan, and thrilled a capacity crowd at Celtic Connections.

Much of their music is inspired by the early American musical idioms of the 1920s and ’30s, but the band seamlessly fuse vintage sounds with the contemporary without sounding forced or affected. Their more recent explorations blend human beat-box with classic swing and New Orleans style rhythms. This is their first visit to the Universal Hall.
