Announcing the Famous Grouse Festival

20 Apr 2011 in Music

Tickets are now on sale for a new music festival in Scotland hosted by The Famous Grouse showcasing some of the best musical talent and whisky that the country has to offer.

Taking place in scenic Perthshire at Scotland’s most visited and oldest working distillery, The Famous Grouse Festival will run for the first time on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th August*.

The Famous Grouse Festival will offer visitors the opportunity to enjoy whisky sessions with the master blender, sample The Famous Grouse Family: The Famous Grouse, The Black Grouse and The Snow Grouse and learn how to make whisky cocktails – all whilst enjoying music from some of Scotland’s best musicians and bands.

Headlining on the Saturday night will be Skerryvore, the award winning Scottish band known for their fusion of traditional music with the urban sounds of rock and funk . The band is no stranger to festivals having entertained crowds at MagiaCeltica in Italy, Celtic Crackers in the Netherlands and home crowds at Celtic Connections and T in the Park.

Also performing on the Saturday is modern Gaelic band Mànran who have celebrated great success in the short time that they have been together. Mànran brought in the New Year on BBC ALBA as the live host band and this year have performed as part of Celtic Connections. In January the six friends released their first Gaelic single ‘Latha Math’ which shot to number one in the UK singer/songwriter charts and number six in the Scottish download charts and Radio 1 Indie charts.

As a solo acoustic artist, Jill Jackson was described by the Nashville press as the ‘Scottish Songbird’ – a contrast from her days as the front-woman of rock band Speedway. From rock chick to country girl, Jill has toured with Natalie Imbruglia and supported Bryan Adams. Jackson fulfilled a lifelong ambition in 2006 when she performed at the Bluebird Café in Nashville.

Completing the line-up is Piperactive, the ‘Kick-Ass Celtic’ band with traditional roots, and Perth’s very own Mike Lee, a local singer songwriter. Budding musicians who are keen to perform alongside some of Scotland’s finest can enter a competition to become the final act and complete the Saturday line-up. More details to follow soon.

Tracey McCafferty, General Manager, The Famous Grouse Experience commented: “We’re all looking forward to hosting this inaugural whisky and music festival and are delighted with the high calibre of Scottish musical talent that will be preforming. It’s going to be a great weekend and is the perfect celebration to mark the brand’s 30 years as Scotland’s favourite whisky.”

The music and whisky festival will run from 5pm to 10pm on Friday 12th August and from 3pm to 10pm on Saturday 13th August at The Famous Grouse Experience in Crieff. Ticket prices are £30 per day and are now on sale from www.ticketmaster.co.uk . Tickets are restricted to those aged 14 and above and all over 18’s will be treated to three free drams.

News about the full Friday line up will be announced in the coming weeks.
