Weird Cromarty… a storywalk through the spooky world of Hugh Miller
20 Apr 2011 in Heritage, Highland
Bob Pegg, Ross-shire based storyteller and musician, leads a walk through the streets of Cromarty, pausing to tell tales of witches and goblins, mermaids and shape-shifters – tales that pioneer geologist and folklorist Hugh Miller heard during his boyhood in the village two hundred years ago.
Held in collaboration with the National Trust for Scotland, this is the final event of Walking the Stories, a project initiated by Bob Pegg, with support from a Creative Scotland Storytelling Bursary. The aim has been to hold a series of walks in different Scottish locations, working in collaboration with community groups to explore local folk tales, and a sense of place. Walks so far have included two on Iona with visitors to the Iona Community, and two with the Highland Archaeological society ARCH.
The walk is suitable for families with an appetite for the strange and occasionally gruesome.
There is no charge for the walk, which will take place on Easter Saturday, 23rd April. Meet outside Miller House, Church Street, Cromarty at 2.00pm. Final story in the Cromarty Brewery at 4.00pm, with free refreshment included.
