Appalachian Spring & The Soldier’s Tale in Glenuig

5 May 2011 in Highland, Music

A special Loch Shiel Festival version of Copland’s Pulitzer Prize winning “Appalachian Spring” precedes Stravinsky’s topical take on the Faustian fable: A soldier on leave trades his fiddle – and his soul – for a magic book on how to get rich.

A spoken fairytale opera with dance, The Soldier’s Tale is a masterpiece of the miniature – dry and acerbic, dark yet witty, threatening but tongue in cheek.

This production is specially customised for Glenuig Hall and the Loch Shiel Spring Festival: A unique collaboration between artists of international acclaim and young local talents from Lochaber Youth Theatre and Ballet West, all brought together with Christopher Josey’s distinctive flair.
