Craignish Arts Festival 2011

11 May 2011 in Argyll & the Islands, Festival, Music, Visual Arts & Crafts

Craignish Arts Festival 2011 will be held from 23 July – 7 August. It will bring together the best of all things art for a fantastic fun packed fortnight. There will be dozens of artists exhibiting in an array of venues, including Craignish Village Hall, 2 pubs and a cafe as well as an assortment of other more intimate exhibitions. Sculpture garden walks and trails, guided archaeological walks, walking theatre, Viking battles and 3 Sunday markets showcasing local produce will add to the rich variety of outdoor activities available. In addition, there will be a number of other events ranging from gospel singing, mini Olympics, and a community-wide scarecrow display to a Guinness World Record attempt for the largest Reel of the 51st ever undertaken.

With a wide range of art workshops, music, storytelling, competitions and other entertainment this festival will attract and enthral all – from beach combing sculpture walks suitable for the very youngest to a historical display celebrating 150 years of our village school for our esteemed elders to look back on.

The Craignish peninsula lies in the heart of mid Argyll and the ancient kingdom of Dalriada, approximately 20 miles South of Oban and 15 miles North of Lochgilphead.

Washed by the warm waters of the Gulf Stream, with breathtaking views around each corner, Craignish is an art, archaeology, sailing, wildlife and walking paradise.

Recognised as a top outdoor playground for a host of sporting pursuits, it is as a thriving centre for Arts and Crafts excellence that Craignish is most admired. A rich history of art is evident in ancient carved cup and ring marks scattered around the peninsula, while today, Craignish can boast fantastic contemporary art and a thriving artistic community that continues to grow and flourish.

The Craignish Festival 2011 organisation is being spearheaded by Craignish Community Company (C3) – a community organisation whose remit is to promote projects and activities for the benefit of the community.
