The Printmaker’s Proofs exhibition
17 May 2011 in Highland, Visual Arts & Crafts
An exhibition by painter and writer Marion Boddy-Evans will be held at Portree Community Library from 16 May to 30 June 2011.
Not long after moving to the Isle of Skye from South Africa in 2008, painter and writer Marion Boddy-Evans was introduced to the intrigues and challenges of fine-art printmaking. First linocuts and collagraphs through the printmaking course at West Highland College, then traditional etching on copper at the Highland Print Studio in Inverness.
Marion says: “Printmaking has opened up all sorts of new possibilities. My painting style leans towards abstraction, something that’s helpful with linocuts where reducing detail can produce an appealing print.
I also like to work expressively; drawing freehand on an etching plate lends itself to this while simultaneously adding the ‘surprise’ element that inking and printing a plate produces. The opportunities for further professional develop that living on Skye has provided, as well as the inspirational landscape and all the creative people I have met, have been a real boost to my art.”
Marion is represented by Inchmore Gallery near Inverness. Some of her work is also on sale at the new Skye Baking Co coffee shop in Portree. She has written the Painting section of About.com (part of the New York Times company), since 2002. See http://painting.about.com.
