Scottish Ensemble Tour Highlands and Islands Venues This Summer

19 May 2011 in Music

The Scottish Ensemble, Scotland’s most adventurous and versatile musical ensemble will be heading out on the road from 25 – 28 June 2011 for their annual concert tour of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland bringing some of the finest string music to communities in Birnam, Skye, Boat of Garten and Ballachulish.

Audiences will enjoy an inspiring midsummer evening of music for strings by Classical and Romantic masters Mozart and Hugo Wolf with Mahler’s arrangement of Schubert’s dramatically intense Death and the Maiden Quartet forming the cornerstone of this concert. The Ensemble will also be performing music by British composer John Woolrich: Ulysses Awakes, based on the music of Monteverdi, and the violin concerto Capriccio written especially for the unique sound of the Scottish Ensemble and its Artistic Director Jonathan Morton.

General Manager of the Scottish Ensemble, Thorben Dittes, says:
“While our touring pattern throughout the year sees the Scottish Ensemble perform regularly in the six Scottish cities, we are also committed to Scotland’s more rural communities and look forward to our annual visit to venues in the Highlands and Islands. Audiences can expect to be treated to a programme that features the Ensemble’s signature blend of pieces from the established string repertoire alongside new works by a living composer.”

Classical music fans in the Highlands and Islands are getting a preview of this programme which the Ensemble will also be performing in London. Immediately after this tour, the Scottish Ensemble will be travelling to King’s Place, a celebrated new venue near King’s Cross in London. They are performing there for the first time by special invitation from John Woolrich in a series of concerts curated by the composer.
