New exhibition opening at Inverness gallery
25 May 2011 in Highland, Visual Arts & Crafts
Castle Gallery, Inverness, will be opening their new exhibition of paintings and original prints by Mychael Barratt and Trevor Price on 28 May. The exhibition will run until 18 June 2011.
Mychael Barratt’s work draws inspiration from sources as diverse as fairy tales and Shakespearean dramas to paintings by “Great Masters” and 1960’s pop culture. After studying in Canada, Mychael travelled around Europe, finally settling in London in 1984, where he still lives and works. Mychael says ‘The titles are an integral part of the process, and narrative themes and an irreverent sense of humour run through all of my prints and paintings’. His most recent series based on the idea of pets owned by famous artists such as Van Gogh and David Hockney have proved extremely popular with art collectors.
Trevor Price R.E. shares a studio with Mychael Barratt in London but spends a lot of his time in St. Ives, Cornwall. His subject matter, in many ways, is a reflection of his life. Some of the pieces are about the intimacy between a couple and others show the normal obsessions of any man!
Trevor describes himself as an artist/printmaker, and not just an artist. It is the opportunity to experiment and the diversity of technique that draws him to the medium of printmaking. At the moment most of his figurative prints are drypoints in one form or another, usually on zinc or perspex. The images using perspex are made by drawing on the surface with a soldering iron, and then printing from those marks. Trevor has won several national printmaking awards and is an active member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers. He is ‘Printmaker of the Year’ at Printfest, Britain’s only art fair soley for printmaking.
