Moray Art Centre Hosts The Big Lunch 2011

2 Jun 2011 in Moray

The third annual Big Lunch event, which takes place across the UK on Sunday 5th June, has attracted the best part of a million people since it was launched. The idea grew out of the Eden Project, an educational charity based in Cornwall. The Eden Project uses exhibits, educational programmes and events to remind people of what nature gives us and to help them learn how to look after it in return.

The Moray Art Centre will host its own Big Lunch, on Sunday 5th of June in celebration of their dedicated team of volunteers. On the day Moray Art Centre’s 35 volunteers will treated as VIP’s and served by the staff and board!

The event coincides with Volunteer Week 2011. Councillor Lorna Creswell and Councillor Jeff Hamilton will present Millennium Volunteer Awards to our younger team of volunteers, and awards to our dedicated team who have shown outstanding commitment to Moray Art Centre.

Volunteers play a crucial role within the organisation. As a self-sustaining independent Art Centre, with a small staff team the volunteers help strengthen the knowledge and skills of the team. , Moray Art Centre’s Volunteer Co-ordinator said “There are many way’s that you can volunteer with us – helping out on reception, showing visitors around exhibitions, or assisting our extensive outreach and education programme are just a few examples.”
Councillor Jeff Hamilton added “I’m delighted to have been invited to The Big Lunch and to present awards to some of our young volunteers. Volunteering has always played such a major part in providing services. In today’s economic climate, volunteering is more important than ever and it’s good to see organisations, such as the Moray Arts Centre, fostering this spirit in our young

Volunteering is also great way to develop your potential, gain work experience and boost your CV while making a real difference to people’s lives.

Councillor Lorna Creswell said this about volunteering; “For me volunteering gives an exchange of currency that no other role can give…’passion and character building’. Always challenging and stretches most beyond limitless horizons!’ Last year Volunteer Centre Moray awarded ‘Organisation of the Year’, to Moray Arts Centre in recognition for the development of our volunteering programmes in 2010.

A record number of people right across the country are expected to take part in the Big Lunch 2011, if you are interested in volunteering at Moray Art Centre, and would like to attend our Big Lunch on Sunday 5th June please call or email our Volunteer Co-ordinator, Kresanna Aigner for further details or pop in the Moray Art Centre for an informal chat.
