an talla solais is delighted this Summer to present the beautiful and powerful etchings of Jason Hicklin from 8 – 31 July 2011.  The land and sea scapes of the West Coast portrayed in his rich monochrome etchings evoke these familiar local environments. His dedication to the investigation of these places is brought together in this exhibition, spanning work from the 90s to some of his more contemporary images.

“My work over the last sixteen years has been based on walks, boat trips and drawings predominately based on the coast of West Coast of the British Isles, over these years the process of etching has been central to my images. The process of corrosion and resisting the acids is an ancient process and provides a mark and a unique series of problems and solutions.”

“The work in this exhibition results from trips to the Outer Hebrides (1995) ,Tory Island Co Donegal (2009) and various and ongoing trips to the Inner Hebrides” – Jason Hicklin
