Mixed Summer exhibition at Castle Gallery

14 Jun 2011 in Highland, Visual Arts & Crafts

Throughout July the Castle Gallery on Castle Street in Inverness will be hosting an exhibition of contemporary paintings, original hand-made prints, ceramics, glass, sculpture and designer jewellery. This inspirational and eclectic selection of work ranges from landscape to figurative, from local to national and from the modern to the more traditional.

The philosophy of the Castle Gallery is to show contemporary art based on aesthetic merit and quality of workmanship. The gallery has a strong and distinctive aesthetic character which is evident in the work on display. Gallery owner, Denise Collins says “We do not show the same old artists that ‘do the rounds’ but strive to be different. This means we are always on the lookout for new talent.”

This highly regarded commercial gallery challenges the erroneous perception that you need to visit the central belt to buy high quality contemporary art in Scotland.

The Independent in its article ‘ The 100 best reasons to visit Scotland’s cities’ (March 2005) listed the Castle Gallery at number 28. (Only the Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh and Aberdeen Art Gallery rated higher in the gallery section). Why not pay the gallery a visit and find out what all the hoo-hah is about.

There will be extended opening hours during the Barclays Scottish Open event with late night openings until 9.00pm on Thursday 7th July and Friday 8th July and until 7pm on Saturday9th July.
