They say write about what you know but in this case it was write about what you read for one up and coming theatre company.

‘Working Holiday’ by SkinnyDip theatre company is a dark comedy which will be performed at the Ironworks in Inverness on Saturday 2 July as part of the Play Pieces season of lunchtime theatre.

Inspired by stories in the Inverness media about vice-dens being discovered in the city, this ambitious theatre company have worked on a script exploring the friendship between two women, their strengths, vulnerability and ability to thrive in the face of adversity.

Lindsay Dunbar, Play Pieces co-ordinator says “Play Pieces is all about presenting contemporary work being produce by Highland theatre companies. This show is funny, observant and quite dark. Audiences have responded well to Play Pieces so far so I’m sure they will love this work”.

Meilissa Paterson of SkinnyDip Theatre agrees “Play Pieces has provided us with an unique opportunity, and a fantastic vehicle to showcase our work as a new company. Until now there has been no platform for professional young actors/ writers in the Highlands to stage new work, and reach out to new audiences.”

Lindsay Dunbar added “What is especially exciting is that SkinnyDip have been working in collabouration with Wild Bird, an already well-established company. I would love to see more companies working this way, nurturing new work and talent.”

Play Pieces started last month, showcasing new work by Highland theatre companies, once a month until November. Each show, starting at 1.30pm is less than 1 hour long and audiences get their lunch included in the ticket price. Lunches are provided by award-winning MacDougall & Hastie as well as Artysans Cafè.

“Play Pieces is about making theatre accessible to everyone in the Highlands” says Lindsay Dunbar “by putting it on during the day it makes it so much easier for people to catch a show, especially something exciting and contemporary.”
