North Rock Gallery is celebrating all things Coastal with the opening of its Summer exhibition ‘COAST’  (16 June – 13 September 2011). The exhibition is a must see with its great selection of artwork from local and national artists \ makers. Suzanne Shearer of North Rock Gallery comments ‘The exhibition is a celebration of all things sea related, and Shetland with its 1697 miles of coastline has a lot of inspiration to offer artists’.

Local artists exhibiting include Amy Fisher with her beautiful mixed media canvases, Howard Towll with a selection of his much sought after wildlife woodcuts. Alloa based but Shetland born artist Mandy Tait has produced a striking lino cut titled ‘Oolit’ and Cheryl Jamieson of Glansin Glass has produced some stunning textural glass pieces.

To compliment this artwork, national artists include: Sarah Morpeth’s incredibly delicate paper-cut art and Shirley Vauvelle’s gorgeous driftwood sculpture pieces. Scottish ceramicist Karen McPhail has contributed a fantastic selection of ceramics some featuring local seabird celebrity the Oystercatcher.

Jewellery in this exhibition comes from local artist Jayne Kelly who has produced an instantly desirable seashell range, textile brooches all the way from Sarah Campbell of Mogwaii in Lismore and silver and ceramic bead necklaces and ear-rings from Kriket Broadhurst who is based in Anglesey.

North Rock Gallery has stayed true to its ethos of affordable and accessible art with prices starting from as little as £12 and all work available to take away on the day of purchase.
