The Art Of Golf Exhibition

27 Jun 2011 in Artforms, Moray, Visual Arts & Crafts

During the first Scottish Golf Open to be held at Castle Stuart in July 2011, Moray Art Centre is exhibiting Golf, an editorialised art collection that tells the story of the game, the terrain and where it’s all going. Limited edition art prints from the handmade, 18 chapter, 140 page publication masterpiece, plus copies of the 575 page Collector Edition (limited to 2100) will be on display and available to buy at the exhibition. ‘Golf’ which was created by Wonderland Publications over four years, will be on display from 5 July to 14 July 2011.

Colin Montgomerie, Ryder Cup winning captain and golf course designer, served as the resident professional during the four years of crafting the book, Golf. Co-creators Paul Skellett and Simon Weitzman drew from their fine art, brand creation, TV and film backgrounds and incorporated contributions from over fifty individuals worldwide in the golf industry including voices from the PGA, course architects, historians, coaches, caddies, commentators and historical societies.

Additionally, during the four year project, the creators painstakingly restored many rare and previously unseen archive images and created hundreds of pieces of artwork to sit alongside the 105,000 word editorial.

Golf is designed to entertain, enchant and amuse the lifelong golfer, the golf enthusiast, as well as reaching out to those who are new to the game, interested in the landscape it occupies, or simply fascinated by the art and culture that have influenced the game’s evolution over the centuries.

Randy Klinger, Director of Moray Art Centre said “There are many links between golf and art, both need patience and dedication and both can be completely addictive! We’re hoping that he current number one golfer in the world, Luke Donald will visit the exhibition as we know that he is a keen artist and studied art theory and practice in college as well as being a keen art collector.”

A trip to see Golf will be a perfect idea during the Scottish Golf Open and Moray Art Centre is a great place to escape if it rains! Also during the Scottish Golf Open the Centre is running a number of arts & craft activities for all the ‘Golf Widows and partners’ who might also travel to the area with everything from landscape painting to making candles. Scott Byrne, Exhibitions Manager said “This exhibition features a unique opportunity to purchase highly original graphic artwork that demonstrates the dynamic nature of the game”
