Skye, RunRig and the Recovery Album

28 Jun 2011 in Dance & Drama, Gaelic, Music

Cleas, an arts charity based in Portree has been selected by the People’s Millions to go forward to the STV television vote on Tuesday 28th June.

This project involves voluntary arts groups and the wider community in Skye drawing inspiration from the RunRig Recovery album which is thirty years old, this year.

If successful, over the next nine months, the project will work with local primary schools and Portree High to build up a story board for a major dramatic event, in Portree, in Spring 2012. Script writers will be commissioned, new music will be written, producers and team leaders will engage with the community and everyone will have the opportunity to be involved. It will draw inspiration from the history and culture of our community and build up skills in script writing, Gaelic, dance and drama. It is expected that over 450 people will take part in the final event.

In order for this to go forward and for our community to benefit from this exciting opportunity they need your vote. This could be a tremendous boost for Skye and could draw significant visitor numbers to our area.  It is hoped that this will become an annual event.

Involved, so far, with this project are Cleas, SkyeDance, Portree Panto Group, Scottish Community Drama Association, schools in Skye, Eden Court, National Theatre for Scotland, Làsair, ATLAS, Aros and Sabhal Mòr Ostaig. However, it is open to all organisations and individuals.

Please phone-in for this project – without your help it will not happen!

The phone number and further details are available at http://www.peoplesmillions.org.uk/2011-finalists/stv-north/skye-recovery-and-the-runrig-festival

All votes must be cast on Tuesday 28th June 2011 and everyone can vote up to 10 times!
