Clear Light on the Water: Oban, The Story

1 Jul 2011 in Argyll & the Islands

A memorable evening of poetry, history and theatre, bringing to life Oban’s rich history from the past 200 years.

Norman Bissell will perform short poems about Oban which he wrote for the interpretation panels along the Oban seafront and a longer sequence of poems from his collection Slate, Sea and Sky which feature the landscape, seascape and people of the slate island of Luing where he lives. He has performed his work to acclaim at major book festivals in Edinburgh and Glasgow as well as at An Tobar on Mull and the Moray Art Centre.

Catherine Gillies will be displaying a selection of artefacts from the Dunollie Trust and be available to talk about the history of Dunollie House and the Clan MacDougall, and their lasting impact on the development of Oban.

The Three Wee Crows Theatre Company bring their unique style of presenting the history and legends of Argyll to the telling of the story of Oban and nearby lands and islands. The performance will include a new selection from the Crows repertoire, including For Lorn – a piece written by Len Brown especially for the Oban BiCentenary.

Lynda Henderson in ForArgyll said of the Three Wee Crows:

Here is a company to watch. Its emergence is one of the most exciting recent developments in the world of arts and culture in Argyll.
