Macbeth

by William Shakespeare

Directed by Marcus Roche, Concept Design by Patricia Niemann, with James Mackenzie (star of CBBC’s Raven) as Macbeth

At the Stables, Cromarty on Wednesday July 20th at 7.30pm

Thane of Cawdor, Thane of Glamis, King of Scotland! Then as now, land is power.

Having been granted new lands and titles, Macbeth wants more. Driven by greed to murder his king and kill his friend, Macbeth is spurred on by the witches, his wife and his own ambition. He takes his destiny into his own hands and pays the ultimate price for his greed. In modern dress, this is urgent and fast-paced production of the very first action movie will engage audiences by placing them right at the heart of the action.

The production will be directed by Marcus Roche who recently directed the Open Book Highland Schools tour of Romeo and Juliet. The cast features James Mackenzie (CBBC’s Raven) Ewan Donald (Death of A Salesman, Not so Fatal Death of Grandpa Freddo), Cameron Mowat (Walden, I’m A Shakespearian Character Get Me Out of Here) Helen Mackay (Silver Darlings, Snow Queen), Garry Collins (Thank God for John Muir, Stranger’s Babies) and Michelle Gallagher (Sound of My Voice).

Set around a dinner table, the entire play will take place in one room placing the banquet at the centre of the action and with the audience as guests. The audience will be at the heart of the action of one of Shakespeare’s most compelling plays surrounded by elements of design and spectacle including the ‘dagger’ chandelier created by Patricia Niemann.

Combining the skills of experienced actors with the insight and freshness of emerging talent and introducing the vision and craft of a Highland artist, Open Book brings this concise and imaginative new production to the Stables in Cromarty.

Tickets are priced £8, £6 and £4 for children under 16 and advance booking is highly recommended

…when shall we 3 meet again?….next Wednesday at the Stables hopefully….
