Donald Black Band at the Sunart Centre

8 Jul 2011 in Music

Ace harmonica player Donald Black’s roots are firmly steeped in the West of Scotland Highland Bagpipe and Gaelic tradition – but his repertoire extends well beyond this to embrace the idioms of Ireland, the Shetland Isles, Cape Breton / Nova Scotia and mainstream Scotland. Donald’s live performances have delighted audiences from the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, UK-wide, through Europe – and from Moscow to Kansas City. His playing of thoroughly challenging jigs, hornpipes, marches, strathspeys and reels, and emotionally charged slow airs and laments can only be described as spellbinding.
Donald is proud to be joined again by young musicians Ross Wilson on keyboard and Allan Nairn on guitars and banjo. From a very early age both Ross and Allan have been seriously involved in playing the traditional music of their Gaelic/West of Scotland culture.
Ross, from Bunessan, Isle of Mull, Argyll, is quite understandably fast becoming a much sought after musician; his being very busy over the last two years, playing piano/keyboards, accordion and double bass in several bands and session work on B.B.C. Scotland and B.B.C. Alba. He is a qualified SAE audio engineer and is currently studying Music Technology at the University of the West of Scotland.
Allan, from Kentra, near Acharacle, Argyll, has very recently “arrived on the scene”, amazing everyone with his great natural multi-instrumental skills on stringed instruments, button accordion and percussion; playing all types of music from traditional to the more contemporary, with panache and great feeling. He is presently studying Electrical Engineering with Music at Glasgow University.
