Plan B – 56 Languages

12 Jul 2011 in Dance & Drama, Highland

Plan B are in the midst of planning a number of exciting new projects as part of their Ross and Cromarty Community Dance programme.

One of these will be a project entitled 56 Languages. The company have been out and about in Ross and Cromarty over the last 6 weeks meeting up with individuals and organisations who would like to get involved but there is still an opportunity for other folk to join in.

56 Languages came from a Highland Council Report which looked at over 600 children in schools in Highland alone and found that between them they spoke 56 languages. This finding in itself is pretty significant and provided the starting point for a project which aims to explore the experience of new residents in Highland. What’s it like being a new resident? Do you feel you belong to a community and if so which community and who else is in it? Is there still such a thing as” A Highland Welcome”?

You don’t have to be a brand new resident. You may have just arrived here or have lived here most of your life but belong to a family who moved here. You don’t need to have travelled too far either!

The main focus for the project is that of bringing people together and bridging communities. In the first instance a series of organised gatherings has been arranged in The Green House, Dingwall. These meetings will be an opportunity for everyone to get together informally and to begin to talk a wee bit about experiences but also to explore how the project will take shape creatively.

The dates are Thursday 21st July from 6:30 to 8:00pm

Friday 22nd July from 2:30 to 4:00pm

Saturday 23rd July from 6:30 to 8:00pm

If you can’t make the dates but are still interested in getting involved then you can contact Allison Watson on 07760 111317 or allison@planbcreative.org to be added to the database.
