It was 35 years ago that Alastair and Alison Dunn, two very well known figures on the Cromarty and Black Isle visual arts scene founded the Cromarty Group as a showcase for the artists who lived in and around Cromarty. This year, to celebrate its anniversary, the annual exhibition will be held in the Stables Gallery in Cromarty from Saturday 13th August – Sunday 21st August 2011. The exhibition is open daily from 10am until 6pm and 11 local artists will have their work on show.

Andrew Dowsett, fine art photographer from the Black Isle, Beral Anderson, sculptor of marvelous beasts and beasties, Janis Mennie, first class painter of fine landscapes of the local Ross Shire area, Leon Patchett, master wood carver and sculptor, Simon Gunn, landscape painter of vibrant scenes, Caroline Hewat abstract painter and Barbel Dister, owner and producer of vivacious pots for Cromarty Pottery.

This exhibition holds many Dunn connections to the original founders of the group. Alex Dunn is their son and creates sublime graphic and brooding pieces and this year, his son, Andrew Dunn is one of the guest exhibitors. Canadian artist Pat Hay will be showing her contemplative abstracts and Heather McLelland, who is from Wilmington, N. Carolina and is working at the Cromarty Pottery with Barbel Dister will be displaying her work.

There has always been at least one member of the Dunn family represented each year at the Cromarty Group and this year is a particular tour de force. A fitting tribute to the visionary artists who created the original idea 35 years ago.
