Crewed Coracle Workshop to take place on Isle of Skye

22 Aug 2011 in Highland, Visual Arts & Crafts

A Crewed Coracle Workshop is to take place as part of the  Bàta Brèagha/ Bonnie Boat – Year of Scotland’s Islands’ Flagship Event on the Isle of Skye this September 2011.

Join the crew and build a 4-6 seater coracle to then be part of the ATLAS Bàta Brèagha event on 10 September in Portree bay.

Taking the Spey coracle as her inspiration Heather Clyne will lead this workshop building a four-six seater coracle. It will take place over a week in the grounds of Sabhal Mòr Ostaig and will become part of the ATLAS Bàta Brèagha event in Portree bay on September 10 as part of a gathering of coracles and other bonnie boats.

Heather is an experienced maker and will lead the workshop in Gaelic. If you don’t have much or any Gaelic you are welcome especially if you are up for the challenge of working in a Gaelic environment.

You can book a place and come along on a daily basis, or on certain days and times to learn the process and be part of this unusual project or simply visit the site to observe.
