Gothic Garden Thriller Prepares for NxNW Tour in October

22 Aug 2011 in Dance & Drama

Dark Matter is a superb story of madness, passion and death written by Chris Lee and directed by Symon Macintyre, with a live mixed soundscape by Tam Treanor. The performance takes place in late autumn in a secret garden location that you are guided to from a local meeting point. Dark Matter immerses you in a skin tingling ghost story, part light installation, part soundscape.

The action takes place all around you and you wear a black cape to ensure you blend in to the landscape, as well as for weather protection.  The spooky tale can be performed to a maximum of 30 people, lasts 30 minutes and is potentially unsettling for those of a nervous disposition.  As the performer moves though the garden the audience hears the text on the headphones and Tam Treanor‘s amazing soundscape creates a live 3D mix directly in the head of the listener.

Inspired by the strange unsubstantial “dark matter” which floats at the edge of the known universe, this Garden Show is one that could happen everywhere and anywhere people have gardens. The play draws a parallel between our ongoing efforts to preserve our mental equilibrium and the constant struggle to maintain order and symmetry in a garden.

Symon Macintyre is from Nairn and has directed some spectacular events in The North East, such as Big Man Walking and The Big Shop.  His company, Vision Mechanics, has consistently produced innovative, inspiring and interactive events which attract new audiences to the arts.  The Company’s projects combine performance, technology and the sights and sounds of both the natural and urban environment.

Dark Matter is funded by the Northern Scottish Touring Fund and The Davidson Trust.  It  previews in Nairn on 21 and 22 October before going on  a ten venue tour across the Highlands and North East of Scotland.
