Lewin exhibition at Castle Gallery
24 Aug 2011 in Highland, Visual Arts & Crafts
Original Print and Watercolour Drawings by Angie Lewin will be on show at the Castle Gallery in Inverness from 10 September – 1 October, 2011.
This exhibition will afford the opportunity to see a wide range of work by Lewin, including her hugely popular prints, many of which sell out within a matter of months. For her exhibition in Inverness she has designed a new collection of Speyside and Skye prints including ‘Late Summer Spey’, ‘Larch’, ‘Skye Seaweed’ and ‘Spey Seedheads’. She has also been working on new paintings which incorporate pencil work and watercolour and are inspired by visits to the North West Highlands and Speyside. These will be shown for the first time at this exhibition.
Angie Lewin studied Fine Art Printmaking at Central St. Martins College of Art and Design (1983-86) followed by a one year postgraduate course in printmaking at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts. After working in London as an illustrator, she studied horticulture and then a move to Norfolk prompted a return to printmaking. She now works with wood engravings, linocuts, screenprints and lithographs – all individually hand-made. Angie is a member of The Royal Society of Painter Printmakers, The Society of Wood Engravers and The Art Workers Guild.
Her work depicts in intricate detail our native flora from the salt marshes of Norfolk to the Highland hills. She is inspired by plant forms, from slender reeds to sculptural seed heads, informed by her love of ‘50’s art and design. Her new lithograph, ‘Festival Mug’, displays a commemorative mug from 1951 together with other items collected from walking and sketching trips.
Signed copies of her recent book ‘Plants and Places’ (Merrell, Oct. 2010) will be available at the exhibition preview which takes place on Friday 9th September. Contact the gallery for your personal invite.
