Bàta Brèagha/Bonnie Boat sails to Skye this weekend

This Saturday ( September 10th 2011) ATLAS invites you to join in welcoming the Celeste and celebrating the premier of artists’ Walker & Bromwich’s soundscape Celestial Skye with a day of art events, walking, films, and music around the bay in Portree.

Festivities centre on the Celeste, a glittering sailing boat adorned by sixty thousand mirror tiles and the broadcast of Celestial Skye on Celestial Radio 87.7 FM and Cuillin FM 106.2 and 102.7. Visitors can enjoy listening to the multi-layered soundscape while walking around the bay. Zoë Walker: “We want to take the listener on a journey of hope set against adversity emphasising acts of bravery and visionary thinking that have led to a culture of resistance and re-birth where hope springs eternal…”

Walker & Bromwich will be joined by the work of local, national and internationally acclaimed artists, including; Dorothy Cross, Celine Duval, Victoria Bernie, Deirdre Nelson, Jonathan Owen, Jennifer Cantwell, Jenny Deschenes, Laura West, Lucy Woodley, Gilly Langton, Patricia Niemann, Margaret Ferguson, Jones & MacInnes, and Maoilios Caimbeul.

Day closes with cèilidh and RNLI fundraising Fish Exchange Auction.

When: Visitors are invited to gather on the Pier Head and around the bay in Portree at 11.00 am to welcome the Celeste on her maiden voyage into Portree harbour.

Where: All activities and walks will take place around the harbour, the pier, and in the Gathering Hall.

Listen: Collect listening devices or use your own mp3 players, iPods or portable radios and listen to this unique broadcast whilst walking around the bay. Please join us by tuning in to Cuillin FM streaming live on http://www.cuillinfm.co.uk/livestream.php Celestial Radio will be transmitting on 10th September day and night within four miles of Portree bay.
