FutureBook Fest
20 Sep 2011 in Writing
A new concept to the world of writing – FutureBook Fest otherwise known as FuBooFest- is coming to the north of Scotland. Basing its concept on Nanowrimo, FuBoo is a social enterprise all about the enjoyment of genre writing and reading, and the future of the world!
Its aims are:
To engage young people in the North of Scotland in creative writing and in the organising of a festival
Give a platform for up and coming writers of all ages, in speculative fiction.
Give opportunities to young artists in the North of Scotland
Hold writing competitions:
1. For 14-16 years themed on the future of the world – this could be a news article, manifesto, short story, poetry, comic strip
2. For 16 + in speculative fiction -short stories and first chapters of novels will be accepted
3. Point new writers to other on-going opportunities for further stretching of the imagination and competitive zeal
A FuBooFest will be organised by young people in a venue of their choosing. The Festival will include authors they pick to come to the Fest, workshops, lunching and munching, information about writers’ software, literacy, aids and adaptations.
Income raised from FuBoo will be ploughed back in to our local communities to fund reading and writing workshops for young people and adults to encourage inclusive engagement and enjoyment of literature.
After FuBooFest, a collection of stories will be published in honor of everyone who has taken part.
Get in touch with jelica@artsplayhighland.org.uk if you are under 18, into writing and reading and want to help organise, if you are a writer of sci-fi, fantasy et al and good workshop provider, or if you think you would like to make a submission.
Deadlines for writing competitions will be posted on the up-coming wordpress website. The Festival will take place in Spring 2012.
