Here is news of the events and courses taking place at an talla solais in Ullapool in the next month, plus details about submissions  for the 3D an talla solais members’ show:

Painting with Smoke – Until 25th September (2-5pm daily)
This is the last week of the ceramics show. Go along and see different takes on the art of ceramics, from tiny smoked pots to delicate wall-panels and raku-fired glazes.

Opening Night of Four Views – 30th September (6-8pm)
An exhibition of work by artists with local connections: Dick Lindsay, Pam Mackenzie, Rhona Joan Macleod and Simon Mackenzie. Showing from 1st – 16th October 2-5pm daily.

Community Campus discussion – 3rd October (2-8pm)
The Village Hall will host a drop-in planning day for people to talk about how they’d like the area connecting an talla solais, the Village Hall and Ullaspool to be developed. There are exciting possibilities for the space around an talla solais – you are welcome to come and add your ideas to the discussion.

Artist in Residence – 5th October 5th –  4th November
Holly Keasey, an artist based in Dundee, will be resident at an talla solais for the month of October. 

Flock: The Big Draw 2011 – 15th October 11-2pm
The Big Draw campaign gets people across the UK drawing in October every year. This year an tallas solais is taking part by running the Flock project, creating a flock of birds connecting people from the Equator to the Hebrides. The flock started in Africa, will be travelling via London, and will land in Ullapool on 15th October. Go along and make a bird to join it and send it north: final destination Stornoway. The whole flock will eventually fly back south to be exhibited in various places, including at ATS this winter.

Drawing for the Terrified
Run by an tallas solais: thanks to a gift of funds to let them work with new audiences, an talla solais are running a free evening session on drawing for beginners on Wednesday 2nd November from 6-9pm. This will be a taster, and if it’s popular they will run a follow-up course on a regular basis. Contact Joanna by calling 01854 612310.

3D Members’ Show
This year the Members’ Show will come in 2 parts. 3D work will be shown from 17th November at an tallas solais, and wall-based work will be shown in Eden Court in Inverness next March. Here is the link to the submissions form for 3D work. This is going to be a beautiful and unusual show, brightening up our dark December days by showing off an tallas solais members’ creativity. If you are a creator of sculpture, ceramics, jewellery, furniture, artist’s books or any other 3D medium then they would love to exhibit your work this year. Don’t hold back!
