You’ve Been Trumped heads to Inverness for documentary’s Highlands debut

27 Sep 2011 in Film, Highland, Moray

Donald Trump’s worst nightmare is heading to Inverness this weekend with the multi-award-winning documentary You’ve Been Trumped as part of the Take One Action Film Festival.  And Director Anthony Baxter, who was arrested and jailed whilst making the 95-minute film, will be on hand at the Eden Court cinema for a special audience question and answer session to mark the Highlands official premiere.

You’ve Been Trumped tells the story of the American tycoon’s attempts to build ‘the greatest golf course in the world’ on the Menie Estate in Aberdeenshire.  The plan involves building 1500 houses and a luxury hotel on what is, according to leading scientists, ‘the crown jewels of Scotland’s natural heritage’.  Part of the land developed for the golf resort is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.  The Scottish Government gave Mr Trump the green light to build, believing the ‘economic benefits’ outweighed any environmental concerns.  That claims is hotly disputed by leading environmental organisations.

Although Donald Trump has branded You’ve Been Trumped ‘a failure’, the film has been playing to packed cinemas across Scotland.  Simon Bateson, director of Take One Action Film Festivals which is presenting the film said: “After sellout screenings in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee and the Scottish Parliament, it’s really exciting to be bringing the film to Inverness, where anyone interested in Scotland’s future should join us.”

Despite only being finished in May, You’ve Been Trumped has scooped several top industry awards.  Oscar-winning director Michael Moore handpicked the film for his Traverse City film festival in Michigan, USA, where it was awarded the Special Jury Prize in August.   At the Sheffield International Documentary Festival, You’ve Been Trumped picked up the highest accolade for environmental films in the UK with the Green Award.  And last weekend the film was handed the Scottish Screen Archive Prize at the Edindocs Festival in Edinburgh.  The award means the film will be preserved in the vaults of the National Library archives for ever.

Director Anthony Baxter said, “This is a film that will resonate with anyone in the Highlands who questions the idea of money and power riding rough shod over what the scientists say is Scotland’s equivalent of the Amazon rainforest.”
