Making the Invisible Visible

As a freelance textile artist based in Delhi, Priya’s current project has been focussing on the ‘Rafoogari’ tradition of darning, which is a highly specialised skill originating and still cultivated from Priya’s hometown of Najibabad. Priya’s project looks at making visible the invisibility of the Rafoogars and the social historical context of their labour in a contemporary light.

Huntly has its own unique history of textiles with its linen boom in the 18th century, Priya aims to highlight this tradition togeter with two members of the Rafoogar community, Intekhab and Zahkir, during their visit in Huntly. To do this she will be conducting a month long workshop as well as reaching out to the textile community in and around Huntly.

If you have cloth or textiles in need of darning please get in touch by email anna@deveron-arts.com  or visit Priya in the Empty Shop, Bogie Street.
