Natural Connections at Birnam Arts Centre

13 Oct 2011 in Visual Arts & Crafts

A stimulating exhibition ‘Natural Connections’ is showing at the Birnam Arts Centre from now to 28 October (10 – 5pm). The exhibition comprises work by Perthshire Visual Arts Forum (PVAF) members on a theme focusing on the way all things natural and living relate to and depend on each other. Reflecting the broad scope of visual practice of the PVAF members, the exhibition features a diversity of media, from paintings to video. Su Grierson, Tricia Gow and Marilyn Caddell are showing their collaborative video work of ‘Fungus Dyes’ on the stunning coloured dyes created from certain species of Scottish Fungi. The video is set to an original score composed and played on Clarsach by Alison Holmes.

‘Natural Connections’ was officially launched last weekend by artist Lys Hansen to co-incide with the annual PVAF conference this year. The exhibition opening was one of the highlights of the event. The forum concluded with a high note, and artists delegates were inspired by the talks by Pauline Burbidge and Charles Poulsen on their rural art practice, as well as Angus Farquhar who gave an appraisal of creating major art projects in the Scottish landscape.

The exhibition will continue until 28 October 2011 and admission is free. Opening hours are 10am-5pm daily. The venue is at Birnam Arts Centre, Station Road, Birnam by Dunkeld, PH8 0DS.
