Cromarty Family Ceilidh and Black Isle Messiah Update

15 Oct 2011 in Highland, Music

We’re holding a very special Family Ceilidh on Friday October 28th at the Stables. The ceilidh is being hosted by Feis Rois and they have some very special guest musicians and dancers visiting from Friesland who are incredibly keen to share some of their culture in music, song and dance with a lovely Cromarty audience. They will be joined by musicians from Feis Rois and the whole night will kick off at 8pm until 11pm. Tickets for this unique event are £5 for adults and £2 for children.

No need to book in advance – just turn up at the Stables with your dancing shoes on! No idea where Friesland is? Neither did I but according to my reputable source, it’s in the north of the Netherlands. The people are extremely friendly and the area is famous for Frisian cattle and of course dancing! It will be great fun – hope to see you there.

Just a reminder too about our Wooden It Be Nice Craft Fair on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th October from 10am – 5pm. Beautiful hand crafted gifts made in the Highlands and in plenty of time for the festive period which is approaching. We’ll have lots of jewellery, felted pieces, pottery and ceramics, Harris Tweed, quilts and all sorts of beautiful things.

And some news from the Black Isle Messiah team: The BIM Choir and Orchestra will rehearse and perform the Mozart Requiem, Ave Verum Corpus, Overture ‘Il Seraglio’, favourite arias from Don Giovanni, Cosi Fan Tutte and the Marriage of Figaro.  Soloists Joanna Weeks, Jamie MacDougall, Alison Wells and Richard Morrison.  Concert on Sunday 6th November at the Black Isle Leisure Centre.  Tickets available (£12/£10.50 concessions) from the BILC in Fortrose, Deans Road, Fortrose, IV10 8TJ (open seven days – 01381 621252).  Our gallant choir and orchestra are going to be more than 150 strong so aiming to get a larger audience than that!  And we’re going to be performing in an indoor woodland glade…  Plus we have a screening of the Mozart biopic ‘Amadeus’ on Saturday 5th November at 7.30pm in the Fortrose Community Centre, just to get people in the mood for Mozart (tickets also from BILC £10/£8).
