Blood Wedding

Dingwall Players may be in the throes of pantomime rehearsals but already they are planning for a major production in spring/summer 2012. The group will be staging ‘Blood Wedding’ by Federico Garcia Lorca, one of Spain’s most famous poets and playwright. The production will be directed by Nick Fearne

Lorca wrote ‘Blood Wedding’ in 1932 and it was first performed in Madrid in 1933. In August 1936, in the early days of the Spanish civil war, Franco’s forces executed Lorca by firing squad. His body was never found.

‘Blood Wedding’ is an intense tragedy interwoven with poetic imagery. Based on a true event ‘Blood Wedding’ tells the story of a young bride running away with an ex-boyfriend, the ensuing chase through a wood where we encounter woodcutters, the moon and death, and the inevitable tragic conclusion.

The play has a large cast including some very strong female characters. There are opportunities for younger actors and musicians. We will also be looking for someone who can teach flamenco steps!

A unique feature of the production in June is that it is planned to stage ‘Blood Wedding’ in Dingwall Mart in the auction ring!

There will be two initial meetings to start looking at the play and begin preliminary casting. These meetings will be in Dingwall Community Centre on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th November at 7.30pm – come along (to one or both) and find out more.
