Glass Painting Techniques
Thursday 14 – Monday 18 June 2012

Led by Michael Bullen, this five-day glass painting technique class is a technical class which will be built around multiple set projects designed to give the participant a better understanding of glass painting and its potential. The course will also cover the firing of glass, kiln preparation and health and safety in the glass studio.

The course will look at different methods of applying the paint to glass, beginning with simple vinegar and water tracing before building up to layering of paint. This process will create images up three layers thick before firing. This course is suitable for all levels of experience.

The Floating Glass World, Engraving Techniques
Monday 5 – Friday 9 March 2012

Led by Dominic Fonde, this five-day engraving technique class will cover preparatory drawing techniques for engraving, how to develop ideas and composition of the image, and exercises designed to encourage skill in the technique of drill engraving.

The theme of the workshop is “The floating glass world”. This is a play on words referencing images of Ukiyo-e (‘pictures of the floating world’ in English) from which students will draw inspiration and the fact that they will be engraving on ‘float’ glass.

Through a mix of discussion and hands on demonstrations students will be made familiar with the engraving drills, diamond burrs and how to handle engraving on flat glass. This course is suitable for all levels of experience
