Abstract Painting Workshop at Inchmore Gallery

29 Nov 2011 in Highland, Visual Arts & Crafts

Inchmore Gallery near Inverness are holding an Abstract Painting Workshop this December which is being tutored by Dean Melville.  The workshop is being held on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th December 2011 from 10am until 4pm.

If you want to understand what makes a picture tick! (any picture), then a better knowledge of its abstract qualities is what is needed. These intensive two days deal with building awareness about the “nuts and bolts” of picture making.

Painting without subject! Subject is a very personal thing, this workshop is about fluid handling of medium and how to build pictures. Any piece (regardless of subject) works because of a solid working knowledge of these aspects.

The time spent will cover all areas of art technique such as Mark-Making, Proportion, Composition, Tone and Colour. Subsequently students will become much more aware of their own individual expressive qualities.

Other points that will be covered include “Use of Imagination”. This is so important in being able to see where a piece of work might or could be heading, this in turn often relates to each individual’s inventiveness and belief in what they are doing.

The objectives of this workshop are to build students confidence in attitude and approach to the process of picture making, while combining this with sensitivity to technique.

Refreshments will be provided throughout the day but a packed lunch is required, alternatively The Old North Inn directly opposite serves a wide range of meals and we will have menus available.

Fee: £120
