Comar, the new arts organisation on the Isle of Mull, has appointed Caroline Winn as its first Chief Executive.

Caroline Winn is currently General Manager of Hebrides Ensemble and a former Youth Music Officer for what is now Creative Scotland.

Formed from a partnership between An Tobar and Mull Theatre, Comar will be a creative hub for Argyll and Bute and will produce and deliver high quality professional theatre, music, dance and visual arts activities locally, regionally and nationally, as well as developing a wide-ranging community participation and education programme.

Comar aims to have an impact on the growth of the local economy, community development, skills, training and employment opportunities. Comar will work with a wide range of funding and creative partners, and will develop work across Argyll, as well as nationally.

Norman Quirk, Chair of Comar said: “We are delighted that Caroline will be joining Comar as Chief Executive. She brings a wealth of experience of the Scottish arts scene and is the ideal person to take Comar forward.”

Caroline Winn said: “It is a privilege to be appointed the first Chief Executive for Comar, a very exciting role to fulfil for this significant new organisation. I am looking forward enormously to building and developing this new creative hub on the Island of Mull, bringing together two established and highly respected organisations, An Tobar and Mull Theatre. With the creation of this important and unique resource for arts in Scotland, comes an artistic vision and a commitment to the community which I am sure will reach far and wide.”

Andrew Dixon, Chief Executive of Creative Scotland said: “Comar is an exciting new initiative for the Isle of Mull and the arts community in Argyll. Bringing together two already skilled and experienced organisations, the new organisation is a great opportunity for Argyll and has chosen a good leader in Caroline for its first Chief Executive.’
