TURTLES CAN FLY (Film)

Part of the Middle-Eastern Film Festival, Turtles Can Fly puts the focus on Kurdish Cinema. The first film to be made in Iraq after the fall of Saddam Hussein, Turtles Can Fly is set in a Kurdish refugee camp on the Iraqi-Turkish border just before the US invasion in spring 2003. Director Bahman Ghobadi concentrates on a handful of orphaned children and their efforts to survive the appalling conditions. Using an entirely non-professional cast, Ghobadi vividly immerses the viewer in the nightmarish realities of daily existence in this makeshift community . 97 mins, Kurdish with English subtitles Cert 15 – Please note: contains implied sexual assault and war trauma so is not suitable for children under 15

Winner of the Peace Film Award at the Berlin International Film Festival 2005

WEE JAMP

Wee JAMP tells stories of extraordinary meetings on an ordinary street. A simple bench and a bus stop become a meeting point, a playpark, a hiding place or a battleground. JAMP is new circus-theatre for Scotland — mischievous, playful, tough and fearless. Scottish performing arts company Bright Night International (BNI) and Glasgow Parkour Coaching (GPC) created a dynamic new performance style suitable for all the family, drawing on parkour, acrobatics, dance, stunts, gymnastics, breakdance and physical theatre.  This show will be outdoors near the Hall unless the weather intervenes – in which case it will move indoors.

“There was a buzz of parkour and free-running through the whole city for days afterwards. The people loved it!” — about JAMP Amersfoort

JOIN IN – Suitable for all the family, JAMP is aimed particularly at young people, showing something inspiring to watch but also to try. The company will offer free beginners’ workshops in Parkour and Street dance straight after the show, suitable for anyone daring from 8 years and up . Duration : show 40 mins, workshops 60 mins. Contact Universal Hall on 01309 691170 or uhall@findhorn.org for more workshop details.
